Palau de Pedralbes hosts the conference on the present and future of medical studies in Catalonia

Experts from the university and healthcare sectors analyse the challenges facing the field, as new medical school places and investments in UdL’s Health Campus are announced

Palau de Pedralbes hosted, this Friday, April 10, the conference “Present and future of medical studies in Catalonia,” an event designed to discuss the current state of medical education in Catalonia and the main challenges and opportunities it faces in the near future.
The conference brought together leading stakeholders from the country’s knowledge and innovation system, as well as from the healthcare sector, from both professional practice and healthcare management perspectives. The program included an opening dialogue and three roundtable discussions focused on the following areas: “Access to medical studies,” “The impact of new technologies on present and future medicine,” and “Training talent in Medicine: research and innovation.”
The event was organised by the Department of Research and Universities of the Government of Catalonia, in collaboration with the Departments of Health and Language Policy.
Several representatives from the University of Lleida took part in the conference, including Dr Mariona Jové, Vice-Rector for Strategy and Academic Planning; Dr Damià Vericat, Vice-Rector for Governance and PTGAS; Dr Judit Herreros, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; and Ms M. Carmen Rodríguez Rubio, a student in the Medicine degree program.
The Honourable Mr Salvador Illa, President of the Government of Catalonia, announced during the conference the creation of 195 new places in the Medicine degree, mainly allocated to private universities in Catalonia, as well as the confirmation of an investment in the Health Campus of the University of Lleida.
