The Feminist Conference II: Gender and Health (ETCS 1) co-organized by the Student Council of the Faculty of Medicine and the Center Dolors Piera will be held on 25 April in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine. Will be open to the general public, but are specially designed for students of Campus Health (medicine and nursing)

The main objective of this event is visible, and promote awareness on critical gender bias in health and disease and excessive medicalization of women's biological processes.

The main theme of this session is the need to incorporate the gender perspective in health, which means taking into account the different needs of women and men. Looking at the physical, mental and emotional development of women is important to know and try to understand the differences, since the fact that the man has been taken as a measure of human harms women much. These do not just get sick, do not die of these things do not always heal the same treatment and the same affect as external agents.

Another topic that will be addressed at the conference is the excessive medicalization of life and health of women. Medicated means any medical or pharmacological intervention unnecessary or excessive. It is also transform the natural processes of life illnesses and treat them as such, do health research focused exclusively on drugs, medically intervene in disease prevention instead of influencing conditions of life and work population, etc. The factors that promote the medicalization are the biomedical paradigm of Western medicine and the great power of the pharmaceutical industry.

The conference recognizes one ECTS.

Conference: The gender perspective on health, by Ms. Carmen Valls, doctor endocrinologist, Program Director Women's health and quality of life and a member of the NGO Center for Analysis and Health Programs (CAPS) that aims to investigate and highlight gender differences in health and in health services, and provide women access to information and resources to improve their quality of life.
